Etude House Play Color Eyes Juice Bar Palette and Oh M'Eye Line LiquidEyeliner Review

Of all the makeup I currently own, this is my favorite. Right here.

I have seen reviews that claim this palette isn't pigmented once you apply the shadow to your eyes, but in my experience, they are all extremely pigmented except the third color and the last two colors, because they're light to begin with. The rest are beautiful and vibrant and THIS is everything the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette should have been. I love it.

Etude House's Oh M'Eye Line liquid eyeliner.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite liquid eyeliner ever. I prefer it in brown, but black is nice, too. The brush is longer than most, and thin, which makes it very easy to work with. As someone who struggles with liquid eyeliner, I really like this brush.

I hate having to use this as an example, but in April, I had to have my favorite cat put to sleep. That night, I cried for hours, I was honestly inconsolable. And still, this eyeliner didn't move. It didn't smudge, it didn't wash away, it stayed exactly where it was since 6:30 in the morning. This eyeliner will last through anything.

Is it difficult to remove? A bit. An oil cleanser will do the job, but I find that I have to rub my eyes with more force (which is NOT something you want to do) than I do with other liquid liners. Even so, it's worth it because I don't have to worry about raccoon eyes throughout the day.

The one complaint I have is that the packaging is very cheap. I have gone through many bottles of this eyeliner, it's the only one I have used over the past two years. Every single bottle has had an issue. The top (where the applicator is) almost always cracks. You have to be very careful when you close the bottle up so that this doesn't happen to you. Most recently, I had to throw out a perfectly good bottle because the stopper inside became dislodged, so the eyeliner was very thick on the brush no matter how much I attempted to clean it off. It became completely unusable.

I highly recommend this eyeliner because it performs really well, but be aware that the packaging is pretty awful and you really need to be careful when handling it.

Etude House Orders and Review, Plus Tips For Ordering

I recently placed three orders with Etude House during their 30% off sale (and then another two orders during their 20% off sale, I'm still waiting for those ones to arrive). It was my first time ordering directly from their website, I've always ordered from YesStyle before. For this post, I'm just going to post some really unprofessional-looking photos of everything (taken in MEMEBOX boxes because they're so PINK) and talk a little about my experience ordering from them. I will be posting mini reviews of any products I love/hate.

As you can see, I ordered a lot. I started out small and then everything snowballed because Etude House has a lot of cute products and I wanted to try...Pretty much everything. I have used their liquid eyeliner before, it's the only eyeliner I use now. And I've tried their sheet masks before. However, everything else was new to me.

Before I get to the pictures (because it will take up a ton of space), I want to talk about a few things that are good to know if you've never ordered from Etude House before.

When you create an account on their website, it says you will receive an e-mail after your first purchase with an offer for 15% off your second purchase, but I never did. In fact, aside from promotions for sales and new products, I never received any e-mail from Etude House, even when my three orders shipped. It's not really a big deal though, you can track the status of your order (along with the tracking number) on their website. All of my orders shipped on the next business day, even during sales.

Etude House has events where if you spend a certain amount of money ($60 or $80), you qualify for free gifts. One gift was a shower kit (it was sold out, unfortunately) and the other was a trial kit of their Pink Vital Water line. If you want one of the gifts they offer, go to your cart and add the gift there. If you complete your order without adding the gift, they won't send it to you.

So, here's what I really want to talk about. Shipping. If you've ever imported anything from Korea, you know how expensive shipping is. I bought a pair of Running Man sneakers and the shipping cost me as much as the sneakers did. Shipping is ridiculous. I'm going to give you some pointers for ordering from Etude House so you can avoid paying double on your orders.

My first suggestion is: If you are planning to place an order, make sure it's a decent sized order. It's not worth it if you only plan on buying one thing. If your total comes to $70, you'll qualify for free standard shipping! (Honestly, if you spend less, with shipping your total will probably come close to that anyway, so you might as well buy more instead of wasting your money on shipping, right?) The nice thing is that if your order is $70 before applying a discount code, you still receive a free gift and free shipping. To put things into perspective, let's say your order originally cost $70, but with a discount code, it now costs $50. You'll still get the free gift and free shipping. Most websites don't do that, so it's something I really appreciated.

There's one catch. If the weight of your order is over 1600g, it won't qualify for free shipping, so keep an eye on that. I had to edit my shopping cart to avoid paying an extra $60 for express shipping.

With standard shipping, my orders took about 9 days to arrive to New York, including weekends. I was really impressed because the website said it could take up to 20 business days, so I wasn't expecting my packages so soon. Why wasn't I expecting them when standard shipping comes with a tracking number? Well...

You can only track your orders while they're still in Korea. Once they are dispatched, that's it. USPS no longer tracks packages from Korea. That's sort of annoying to begin with, but what makes it even worse is that it's registered mail, which means you have to be home to sign for your package. It would help knowing when it's arriving then, right? And yes, you do have to sign for it even if you choose standard shipping. You know how Fedex/DHL/UPS will let you leave a note on the door with your signature and tracking number? USPS doesn't allow that. If you miss your mail carrier, you have to reschedule the delivery or pick it up at the post office. It isn't the end of the world, but it is inconvenient. Just to be clear, I don't blame Etude House for this. It's just the way it is.

For now, I'm going to post some really terrible pictures and then I have some reviews to put up either tonight or tomorrow.

Etude House Twin Shot LIPSTINT Review

I could never be a professional blogger. I abandoned this blog years ago. And recently, I created a new blog only to be completely distracted by other things. However, I just placed three orders with Etude House and that was enough motivation for me to begin posting again. I'll be back when the last order arrives, but for now, I want to talk about Etude House's Twin Shot LIPSTINT.

This product normally retails for $14.40, but it's currently on sale on Etude House's website for $9.36.

I purchased color PK001. This is what it looks like out of the box.

It's pretty, it has potential, right? Maybe for someone else. Twin Shot LIPSTINT and I were not made for each other, sadly.

First, let's talk about how this is supposed to work.

The first step is to apply the mousse tint. After, you press the tint shot button 2-3 times, then apply a tiny bit to the inner portion of your lips and then blend together to create a gradient. In theory, this is a really simple way to create a gradient lip. But, if you're anything like me, you will find a way to completely screw up this entire process.  Here's what you need to know so you can avoid the disaster I put myself through this morning.

Before even unboxing this tint, I highly recommend using a sugar scrub on your lips. Also, make sure you have about 15 minutes set aside to allow the shot color to reach the applicator. (I'm just guessing when I say 15 minutes. I wasn't patient and that was my downfall.)

The mousse tint appears matte once you apply it, which is why I recommend a scrub to remove any dead skin first. This felt very dry on my lips, like any other matte product would. I generally don't like using lip products because I hate the way almost all of them feel, the two exceptions being Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 and Etude House's Fresh Cherry Tint. I tried to make this product more tolerable by applying Kiehl's Lip Balm #1, but it smeared the colors so they weren't as vibrant and the gradient was pretty much nonexistent. It also made the product settle into any lines, so it looked awful. This is not the kind of tint to immediately stain your lips. I left it alone for 10 minutes before testing it and it still rubbed off on my finger.

As I already stated, the directions say to press the shot button 2-3 times after applying the regular mousse color to your lips. I did that and watched as nothing happened. There is a clear tube that leads from the shot color to the applicator, so I knew nothing was happening. I thought, as it was my first time using it, maybe I had to hold the button down as the shot color [slowly] made its way down to the applicator. Do NOT do this. What happened next was 20 minutes of the shot color leaking out of the applicator while I constantly tried to clean it off. I didn't want to just close the tint back up because I was afraid the two colors would mix together. This was a makeup fiasco I didn't need before work.

So, all that being said, what do I think about the Etude House Twin Shot LIPSTINT? I feel this product is best suited for someone who doesn't mind the feeling of matte lipstick and has the patience to follow directions properly (neither of which apply to me). It's not a bad product by any means, it just isn't right for me...Which is really unfortunate because I have another one arriving sometime within the next week. Maybe I'll have more success with that one? Nah, probably not.

Edit: I wanted to post a little update now that I've tried the lip tint a few more times and also because the other arrived in the mail.

My feelings about PK001 have not changed. It takes a ridiculous amount of time for the shot color to reach the applicator, so it definitely wasn't just because it was my first time using it. However...

I love PK002. It is a bit drying, but with this one, it applies more like a liptint, so it dries, the color stains my lips, and it's safe to use a lip balm with it because it won't smear all over the place. I also had no problem with the shot color, it worked quickly. I'm not really sure if the formulas for each color are different or not, but it definitely seems that way. So I would not recommend PK001 at all, but I do recommend PK002.

Sephora can take all of my money

Not putting too much effort into this post since I haven't even tried most of these products yet.

I was trying to get my Beauty Insider points up to 500. I was already buying DKNY Be Delicious (sort of...I'll get back to that) and Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliner in Perversion, so I decided to try a different blush. From a brand I've never used before. I ended up with Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Dollface. And I reached 500 points! Which is really frightening because that means, once again, I've spent $500 at Sephora and that seems...Excessive. I don't want to think about that though.

 New bottle of Be Delicious vs. my old bottle. As you can see, the one I bought this time is much smaller. That's because, originally, I was going to buy Anna Sui Fairy Dance Secret Wish and at the last second, I decided to just stick with something I already know I love. However, since I still kind of want the other perfume, I decided to get a smaller bottle this time in case I decide I want the other one in the future.

I've been using Zero for years and I decided it's time to switch over to Perversion because it's a darker black. And if I'm using black eyeliner, I want it to be REALLY black, not kind of black. As you can see, Zero (top) is nowhere near as dark as Perversion (bottom).

I am REALLY excited to try this blush tomorrow. I never wear pink blush. Well. I rarely do. I mostly wear orange-toned blush. But I looked up the best blushes for fair skin and Dollface was one of them. Nars Orgasm was another, and I know that's a cult favorite, but this looked prettier.

So. What was the 500 Point Perk? Tarte Amazonian Treasures Collection!

I'm excited because now I can try even more Tarte products and if I like them, maybe I'll have a new favorite brand. (Urban Decay's products are incredible, but I'm still unhappy about the whole China fiasco.) This set comes with Pure Maracuja Oil (which I have read amazing things about), Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed, Waterproof Cream Shadow in Shimmering Moss, Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara and Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder.

I'm not a huuuuge fan of cream eyeshadows, but it may be nice as an eyeshadow base. Everything else sounds great though and I actually like Exposed a lot more in person than I do in pictures.

Sephora lets you choose three samples at checkout. I have two here and the other is a deluxe sample I used a promo code for. If they're any good, I'll buy full size versions.

I really like samples because they're small and I can take them everywhere. Anyway. Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Katie, Guerlain Maxi Lash Mascara and Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 (light).

I'm aware that the general consensus is that if a BB Cream isn't from Asia, it isn't good. And I'm not doubting it, but I figured that since it's a free sample, I can at least try it and see how it is.

Lastly...There's this. It's not from Sephora, I received it through Influenster.

Osis+ Dust It. First of all, I've read that this company tests on animals, so already it's a huge no. But aside from that, let's discuss what it is and if it works.

The idea is you sprinkle this powder onto your roots and it will give your hair more volume. And I'll admit, it does that very well. HOWEVER, now that I've had it in my hair all day, I have some complaints. The volume doesn't last. If you want to get it back, you have to play with your hair. And the more you do, the messier your hair gets. You can also FEEL this in your hair. It feels...Almost sticky. And it changes your hair's texture a bit. I don't really like that, so I won't be using it again. Even if I did like it, I wouldn't use it again after reading that they test on animals.

No one is looking out for you

This morning, I glanced over at my desk and the eyeshadow palettes on top of it. I mentally went over what is in each of them. I got to the palette containing the Mineralista Skittles Collection and decided that this was a topic that deserved its own post.

The Skittles Collection

The first time I ever heard of this collection (and also Lime Crime, while we're at it) was when I still watched xsparkage's videos on YouTube a few years ago. Leesha posted swatches on her blog from both Mineralista and Lime Crime, and the colors were really bright and appealing. I loved playing around with color back then, so I was very interested in the Skittles Collection. I had to have it, so I immediately went on my merry way to the Mineralista website and ordered the pigments.

 

Only recently did I find out, while doing a search for Mineralista to see if they had released anything else, that these pigments were actually repackaged TKB micas. And they were being sold at a huge markup. I thought, "Here we go again. Another Lime Crime."

It was not lost on me that I discovered both of these companies through Leesha's blog and videos. I'm not going to place all the blame on her. In retrospect, I should have looked into Mineralista before purchasing anything from them. And I have learned my lesson since then. That being said...

 

As a YouTube "guru," you have a responsibility to your viewers to research the products you are promoting. These girls have a lot of younger viewers and it may not occur to them to research these companies. They will blindly trust the people they're watching. I see it all the time when it comes to another "guru" (bonus points if you can guess which one it is). You owe it to the impressionable younger girls who watch you to let them know exactly what it is they are purchasing.

 

I no longer watch beauty videos on YouTube. As YouTube has become more of a business, the quality of the content seems to have gone down. Not only that, but a lot of these girls are getting greedy and trying to pull things over on their subscribers. They're being less than honest.

 

A small disclaimer posted somewhere in the middle of your video's description is a bit deceitful. There is a reason you are expected to tell your subscribers when a video is sponsored, because your opinion may be swayed by the free products given to you. The least you can do is be upfront about it.

 

Also, that entitled attitude won't get you anywhere. Receiving a commission by working retail and receiving money off of your order with websites like HauteLook and Ideeli because you posted an affiliate link and told your subscribers to click it...Those are two different things. You're not catering to them in a store, so using that excuse is tacky. It would be less irritating if you were honest about it from the start.

 

I'm less than impressed with YouTube's beauty community these days. That is why I'm making this post.

 

Before you listen to a self-proclaimed makeup artist (if you don't see proof that they are a practicing makeup artist and not just someone who applies makeup in videos, there's probably a reason for it), do your research. It takes seconds to do a search on Google. The "gurus" aren't looking out for your best interest, so you need to make sure you are.

You're going about this the wrong way

About a year ago, E.L.F. had a sale and I ordered a ton of products from them. I would say I probably ordered about a good...33% of the makeup on their website. And ever since then, I've been getting e-mail from them about "special offers." Every. Week. It's not just once a week. They send me reminders. Like this.

Final notice!!!

Oh, no. E.L.F., do you have any idea what this reminds me of? I'll tell you. But it's not pretty.

There was an episode of Tabatha's Salon Takeover where Tabatha went to Touch of Elegance and the owner of the salon, Debbie, would constantly send out coupons with discount offers to potential clients. They said things like, "I'm confused." As in, why aren't you taking me up on this offer? That's what E.L.F.'s "Final notice!" reminds me of.

Constantly bombarding people with coupons and discount offers gives off the impression that you're desperate. You are willing to do anything to get people to spend money on whatever it is you're selling.

Admittedly, I get a lot of e-mails from MAC about free shipping and Sephora is always sending me e-mails regarding their Beauty Insider program (but I'm a V.I.B., so I understand that). However, they don't ask me multiple times a week to spend $25 on their products and then offer me six free lip products in return. It screams, "PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!"

I don't want to give them my money. E.L.F.'s makeup is very affordable, so you can buy a lot with $25. But I already own so many things from them. I don't need more. I don't even use most of what I have. (E.L.F. is very hit or miss. There's a huge post about everything I bought from them and what I would/would not recommend.)

Take a note from Tabatha, E.L.F. E-shred your coupons and stop flooding your customers' inboxes.

A good way to organize makeup/brushes

I just wanted to show this on here. I bought this thing from Amazon a while ago, it's still on there.

I've depotted most of my eyeshadows and pressed my pigments and put them in palettes to make it easier on myself, so any of the extra ones that aren't in palettes fit perfectly in here. Along with eyeliners, mascaras, lip products, extra brushes.

There's a huge tokidoki, E.L.F., MUFE review post that I'm aiming to get up here on Thursday. I want to wait until then so that I can also review the moisturizer I bought, and that will give me a week to use it and determine how well it works. So far, it's doing pretty well.

So, I bought a few things from tokidoki and I'm just...Oh my God. This eyeshadow. Look at this.

That is amazing. This eyeshadow is FILLED with glitter.

I couldn't get swatches of everything because my camera does not like to focus when it's really close up. But I did take pictures of everything, so those will be up.

Makeup can completely transform a person, and to prove it, let's play a game.
