This is going to be one huge post because I've been putting the first part of it off for...I don't even know, three months now? NYX had a huge sale and since everyone raves about how great and affordable their products are, I decided to buy a bunch of them. And it only cost me $60. Well...I say "only" but...
The product I was most excited for was their "Glitterati Glitter Cream Pallete" because...To be honest, I love glitter more than any person should. Here's what it looks like:
It LOOKS amazing. 21 different colors. Every color you could ever possibly need. So imagine my disappointment when I went to swatch these colors. (I'll post swatches at the very end of all my product reviews.) Basically, what this is...Is a clear gel with glitter placed on top of it. It looks nice on the surface, but there's very little underneath the top layer. That issue aside, there's another problem. The glitter doesn't go on nicely. Half of it feels like craft store glitter. Hell, you'd probably be better off BUYING craft store glitter and using eyelash glue to stick it on your eyelids. That's not the end of it, though. If you can get over all of that and you still want to apply it on your eyes...As I said, it's basically a gel. So what it does when you apply it over your other eye makeup is create a muddy mess, and it also causes it to crease. Sounds great, right? Not really.
Next are the mascaras and false lashes. I'm going to be honest...After trying EVERY other product I bought from NYX, I never even attempted to use the mascaras. I'll give you the names of all of them here anyway: Gold, Bronze, Lavender, Sky Teal, Blue Eyes, Baby Green, Baby Blue, Baby Pink and White. White literally looks and smells like white-out, so I will never apply that to my lashes.
Now, the eyeslashes, I actually do love. Not just because of the glitter, I love the cut. I think they're really cute. Obviously, I wouldn't wear them to work or anything like that, but just for fun...I think they're pretty amazing.
I'll name the eyeliners first (these are not in order): Salmon, Lavender, Pink Pearl, Silver Blue, White Pearl, Mink, Baby Blue and Platinum. The lip glosses are: Purple Rain, Silver Plum and Pearl. As for the eyeliners, they were way too light for me to actually use as eyeliner, so I thought, "Hey, I can just use them as a base for my eyeshadow then." Wrong. They flake. Horribly. I think I may even hate them more than the glitter gel trainwreck I talked about up above this. The lipglosses actually aren't bad. I wouldn't buy MORE of them, but these ones are decent. I really like Pearl (the white one) when used over other lipsticks.
The lipstick is Narcissus, and before I get to any of the other products in that picture, I just want to say...I LOVE this product. The color is amazing and the lipstick is creamy and it doesn't dry out your lips at all. This is the only thing I bought that I would actually recommend (besides the eyelashes). The next product is...An eyebrow pencil, I don't remember exactly what it's called and I'm not going through all of my makeup bags to search for it, but I wasn't happy with it. Not because it's a bad product, just because the color is kind of off for me. And to be honest, there are better products out there for your eyebrows anyway. Onto the Jumbo Eyeliner pencil (Raven). It has glitter in it. And, unfortunately, it's just as useless as the glitter gel. You have no idea how much this broke my heart. Lastly, in NYX glitter Hell, there's the Candy Glitter Liner in Disco Queen and Gold. I had ordered another one, but they never sent it...Some pink color. They did, however, charge me for it. Back to my point...These liners are very watered down. You have to repeatedly put the glitter on to get any sort of payoff from them. A better alternative is Urban Decay's Heavy Metal glitter liner. Is it more expensive? Yes. But it's an incredible product that actually does what it's MEANT to do. I'd rather pay more for a product that works than waste my money on a product that's useless.
Here are the swatches, ignore my handwriting. I was disappointed and in a rush, so I really didn't even want to be bothered with them. As you'll see, these products really AREN'T worth your money:
Onto the next set of products. Now...I've only been using these for two weeks, and you're supposed to use them for six to eight weeks before seeing an improvement. They're all Mario Badescu products. Magazines rave about them, celebrities use their products and their customers swear by them. I heard about them from Leesha's videos on YouTube. And I'm not really sure why I spent the money on some of them because I'm pretty fortunate, the only problem I have with my face is that it gets dry, so I need a really good moisturizer and face scrub. But I bought half the products she talked about anyway, and I'll tell you how to use them.
As you can see, I have a lot of samples. Most of them are moisturizers and face scrubs. I'll start with the first two products. Drying Lotion is used overnight, and it's for any breakouts you have on the surface. Basically what you do is you stick a Q-tip into the pink sediment on the bottom of the bottle (do NOT shake it, it's supposed to separate) and you apply it to any area that needs it. People swear that this works overnight, I really couldn't tell you if it does. Leesha said it burns when you apply it. I think it has a strange smell to it, not crazy about that. Glad I haven't had to test it out myself yet. Next is the Kera Moisturizer. Just apply it to your face like you do with any other moisturizer. I have only used this product once because as I said...I have a lot of samples and I've been using those.
The Whitening Mask...No, it is NOT used to make your skin white. It's meant to lighten any scarring or discoloration on your face. It also brightens your skin. I really don't know if this works for the intended purpose of correcting skin discoloration, but it does brighten your face a bit. Again, this is another product that people swear by. If you have really pale skin, this may be something for you to look into because it is a lot harder to cover any scars you may have if your skin is really light. The Silver Powder is used to suck up oil and blackheads. Since I tend to have dry skin...I really haven't used this much because it will probably just make it even more dried out. I did test it to see how it applies. What you want to do is, again, get a Q-tip out. Get the tip wet, then stick in the powder and apply a LIGHT coating of it onto any areas that need it. You leave it on for ten minutes. If you see it flaking off within those ten minutes that means you used too much, and you'll probably have a hell of a time getting it off.
I love the Strawberry Face Scrub. I love anything that involves strawberries and it works really well. I wasn't really crazy about the consistency of the Almond & Honey Face Scrub, even though it smells great. And I have yet to try the Kiwi Face Scrub, so I don't have an opinion on that.
As you can probably tell, I have been using the Honey Moisturizer a LOT. I love it, I wish I'd ordered a huge bottle of it. That will be the next thing I get from them. It's amazing, it works really well. I would absolutely recommend it if your face gets dry, especially during this time of year. Next in line is the Drying Cream. Leesha said this was her favorite product and that it worked really well...Again, I can't say. What it's supposed to do is clear up any breakouts you have under the skin. You can apply it at night before you go to bed, or you can wear it under your makeup in the morning. Leesha did say that a little goes a long way with this product, so only apply a tiny bit because it does have a bit of color to it and you will have to work it into your skin. And lastly, Complex Moisturizer. This one works really well, too. I can't decide if I prefer this or the honey one, but...They're both great.
I'm almost done, I swear!
That is the Victoria's Secret Ultimate Makeup Kit. I just got it today, one of the parents from work bought it for me. I'm absolutely in love with it already, because it has almost everything I need in one compact kit, and the colors are gorgeous. I swatched some of them on my hands earlier to see how I want to do my makeup tomorrow because I can't wait to test it out. It comes with 30 eyeshadows, 5 lip glosses, 5 lipsticks, 4 blushes, luminous powder, translucent powder, bronzer, mascara, lip liner, eyeliner and 5 brushes. For anyone that still has last minute Christmas shopping to do, this would make an incredible gift, I really...I do, I love it. I think it's so cute.
